கத்தரி

s. A pair of scissors, shears, snuffers, &c., கத்தரிக்கோல். Wils. p. 196. KARTARI. 2. The brinjal, egg-plant, வழு துணை, Solanum melongena. 3. A species of snake, ஓர்பாம்பு. 4. The hot period from the twenty-third of சித்திரை, to the seventh of வைகாசி, அக்கினிநட்சத்திரம். This they call முன் னேழுபின்னேழுகத்தரி. There are some partic ular ceremonies performed at this season, during which the brahmans are allowed to indulge themselves in potions of sherbet.

கத்தரிக்காய், s. Brinjal fruit, வழு துணங்காய். கத்தரிக்காயிலேகாலுங்கையும்முளைத்தாற்போலே. As the feet and hands sprang up in a brinjal; i. e. dwarfish.

கத்தரிப்புழு, s. A small worm or in sect in brinjals, ஓர்புழு.

முட்டைக்கத்தரி, s. One of the species.

கொத்துக்கத்தரி--நித்தக்கத்தரி, s. a plant, Solanum stramonifolium.

நீலக்கத்தரி, s. A blue species of brinjal.

காரற்கத்தரி, s. A plant, Solanum insanum, L.

க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To cut with a pair of scissors, shears, &c., to clip, snip, shear, nip, to snuff, கத்தரியால்வெட்ட. 2. To gnaw--as in sects or vermin, to nibble off, புழுவரிக்க. 3. v. n. To differ--as opinions, எண்ணம்வேறு பட. 4. To flash as priming powder, to go out as a match, &c., an explosion, to miss fire, நெருப்புப்பற்றாமற்போக. எலிபுடவையைக்கத்தரித்துப்போட்டது. The rat has gnawed the cloth. கிளையிரண்டாய்க்கத்தரித்துப்போகின்றது. The branch is becoming forked, growing out forked at the end. கிளிகதிரைக்கத்தரித்துக்கொண்டுபோயிற்று. The parrots have clipped off the ears. நண்டுநெற்பயிரைக்கத்தரித்துப்போட்டது. The crabs have nibbled off the corn shoot. பாணங்கத்தரித்துப்போயிற்று. The rocket has missed fire. வழிகத்தரித்துப்போகிறது. The road diverges.

காரியத்தைக்கத்தரிக்க, inf. To frustrate a matter by stratagem. காரியங்கத்தரித்துப்போயிற்று. The affair has become divided by a diversity of opin ions.
