சாந்து

s. Mortar, plaster, சுண்ணச் சாந்து. 2. An unguent or compound oint ment, கலவைச்சாந்து. (c.) 3. Sandal wood or tree, சந்தனமரம். See சாந்தம். (சது.) 4. Flower dust, pollen, பூந்தாது. 5. Fragrant powders as a perfumery, கந்தப்பொடி. 6. Powders in general, பொடி. 7. [loc. de cently.] Human dung, filth, excrement, மலம்.--Note. The different kinds of ungu ents are four: namely, 1. பீதம். 2. கலவை. 3. வட்டிகை. 4. புலி, which see.

சாந்தகப்பை, s. [prov.] A trowel.

சாந்துலக்கை, s. A wooden pestle for beating mortar. (c.)

சாந்துகுழைக்க, inf. To macerate and temper mortar. See குழை. v.

சாந்துசாத்தி--சாந்துசேவை, s. The anointing of an idol. (R.)

சாந்துபூச, inf. To plaster a wall. (c.) 2. To smear the body with odoriferous ointments, களபமணிய.

அரைசாந்து, s. Ground mortar, stucco.

கருஞ்சாந்து, s. Clay used as plaster.

சுண்ணச்சாந்து, s. Lime-mortar. 2. Perfumed powders.

மயிர்ச்சாந்து, s. Unguents for the hair, hair-ointment. (p.)

செஞ்சாந்து, s. A fragrant ointment of a red sandal. 2. Paste of red sandal used in offerings to the sun.

மூடுசாந்து, s. [prov.] An entire roof of plaster. See மூடு, v.

வெண்சாந்து, s. White mortar.

சாந்தணிய, inf. To put on sandal marks.

சாந்தின்குழம்பு, s. Odoriferous oint ment. (R.)

சாந்துவாரி, s. A domestic scavenger.

சாந்துப்பொடி, s. Perfume in pow ders, pulvil. (p.)

சாந்துப்பொட்டு, s. [com. சந்தனப்பொ ட்டு.] A spot of sandal or other paste on the forehead. See பொட்டு.

சாந்துக்காறை, s. An ornament. See காறை.
