சிதை

s. Inferiority, lowness, baseness, கீழ்மை. (p.)

சிதையர், s. Low or mean people, கீழ் மக்கள். (சது.)

கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To be injured, spoiled, marred, ruined; to de cay, to be worn out, to waste, moulder, கெட; [ex Sa. Sita.] 2. (Compare சேதி, v.) To be sundered, divided, cut to pieces, to be mutilated, வெட்டுண்ண. 3. To expire, சாக. 4. To change, to be contracted--as words or language by time, to grow obso lete, மருவிச்சிதைய. 5. To be changed, trans formed, to vary as custom, religion, &c., வழக்கமாற. 6. To be destroyed, to perish, to melt away--as an army, இரிய. 7. To degenerate, deteriorate, சீர்கெட. 8. To be wrong, to get out of tune--as music; to go wrong--as a tune, சந்தஞ்சிதைய. 9. To be defective, deficient in letters, words, &c., எழுத்துமுதலியகுறைய.

சிதைந்தவேடு, s. [prov.] An ola-book injured by white-ants, &c.

சிதைந்துமருவியசொல், s. A word changed by time; a contraction. (p.)

சிதைவு, v. noun. Destruction, perish ing, ruin, loss, கெடுதி. 2. Decay, waste, squandering, abuse, பதனழிவு. 3. Frag ments, ruins, &c.--as சிதை, v. 4. Change by contraction of a word; corruption or change of language, custom or religion, குன்றுதல். 5. Rout, defeat, இரிவு. 6. In jury of wealth, character, &c.; suffering detraction, &c., பெயர்முதலியகெடுதல். 7. De fect of a letter or word chiefly in poetry, தளைமுதலியவழுவுதல். 8. Getting out of tune, or going wrong, as a tune, சந்தச் சிதைவு. 9. Degeneracy, deterioration, சீர்கேடு.

சிதைவுறாமங்கலவரிசி, s. Consecrated entire rice. See அட்சதை. (R.)

எழுத்துச்சிதைவு, s. Change of letters --as in the adoption of words from Sanscrit. 2. Omission or loss of a letter in a word by time.

சொற்சிதைவு, s. Change of a word from its original form, by elision, &c. 2. The change of Sanscrit words into Tamil. 3. Omission of a word.

பொருட்சிதைவு, s. Transition of meaning, change in the meaning of a word by time, கருத்துபுரளுதல். 2. Injury, loss, &c., of property.

க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To injure, spoil, mar, waste, mutilate, கெடுக்க. 2. To abrogate, abolish, annul, resound, கொலைக்க. 3. (நிக.) To sound, ஒலிக்க. 4. To destroy, ruin, demolish, kill, அழிக்க. See சேதி. v. 5. To sunder, divide, cut to pieces, பின்னமாக்க. (Sa. Ch'hida.) 6. To squander, lavish, or waste property, பொருள்செலவழிக்க. 7. [prov. vul. for சிரைக்க.] To shave, shear, &c., மயிர்சி ரைக்க. செய்தாரினல்லார்சிதையாதவர். Those who are greatful for favors, (lit. who murder them not,) are preferable to those that bestow them. நன்றிசிதைக்க, inf. To be ungrateful, (lit.) to destroy benefits received. (p.)

சிதைப்பு, v. noun. Destroying, demo lition, ruin, அழிப்பு. 2. Injury, wasting, rout, defeat, &c., கெடுதல்.
