--திராவிடம், s. Southern India including, in its largest sense, five provinces, and their respective lan guages. 1. திரவிடம், the Tamil country or Dravida proper. 2. ஆந்திரம், Telingu or Telugu. 3. கன்னடம். Canarese. 4. மகாராட் டிரம், Maharatta. 5. கூர்ச்சரம். Gujeratta (சது.) W. p. 429. DRAVID'A.--Note. திரவிடம் is applied to the people and language of each of those provinces, but especially to the Tamil. Some follow a different ar rangement which includes the Malaya lam and Cingalese. In Wilson's dictionary, Dravida is defined to be the country from Madras to Cape Comorin, a definition too limited, according to usage in the Penin sula.திராவிடபாஷைகள், s. Dravidian langu ages.
