பேய்

s. A devil, goblin, fiend, as பிசா சம். 2. [in combin.] Wild, as plants or trees, காட்டுக்கடுத்த. 3. Evil, bad, vile, fero cious, கெட்ட. (c.) உலகத்துக்குஞானம்பேய் ஞானத்துக்குலகம்பேய்.... Wisdom is a devil to the world and vice versa. [prov.] பேய்க்குவேப்பிலைபோலே. As repugnant to one as Margosa leaves are to devils. பேய்போலேதிரிகிறது. Going about in eager search of gain.

பேயத்தி, s. A species of fig-tree, Ficus d&ae;monum, L.

பேயன், s. [fem. பேய்ச்சி, பேச்சி.] A demoniac. 2. A head-strong fool, a madman, பைத்தியகாரன்.

பேயன்வாழை, s. A kind of plantain, a medicinal fruit.

பேயாட, inf. To whirl the head through possession.

பேயாடி, appel. n. A conjurer. 2. A fortune-teller.

பேயாட்ட, inf. [appel. n. பேயாட்டி.] To cause a person, to be possessed for the utterance of oracles.

பேயாட்டம், v. noun. A devil's dance, பேய்க்கூத்து. [also பேயாட்டு.] 2. Fiendish ness, ferociousness, பேய்த்தன்மை. 3. Con fusion, disorder, கலக்கம்.

பேயாமணக்கு, s. A wild castor-oil plant.

பேயாவிரை, s. A kind of wild ஆவிரை.

பேயாழ்வார், s. One of the twelve Vaishnuva devotees. He composed a hundred verses of நாலாயிரபிரபந்தம், ஓராழ் வார்.

பேயுமிய, inf. [prov.] To suck the blood of a person--as a devil; either killing or greatly weakening him.

பேயுள்ளி, s. Wild onion, ஓருள்ளி.

பேயுறைந்தவீடு, s. A house haunted by devils.

பேயெரிக்க, inf. To burn out a devil by magic. See எரி, (v.)

பேயையுருவேற்ற, inf. [sometimes பே யேற்ற.] To cause a devil to possess a person.

பேயோடாடி, appel. n. Siva, as danc ing with devils, சிவன்.

பேயோட்ட--பேய்துரத்த, inf. appel. n. பேயோட்டி.] To exorcise.

பேயோணான், s. The large kind of ஓணான் lizard.

பேய்க்கண், s. Eyes, or looks of a demoniac. 2. Frightful eyes, அஞ்சத்தக் கவிழி.

பேய்க்கண்டல், s. A tree. See கண் டல்.

பேய்க்கரும்பு, s. A wild and useless sugar-cane, Saccharum arundinaceum.

பேய்க்காடு--பேயுறைந்தகாடு--பேய் மேய்ந்தகாடு, s. A jungle haunted by devils.

பேய்க்குணம், s. An unsociable, pee vish disposition.

பேய்க்குப்படைக்க, s. To make offer ings to devils; also used in cant.

பேய்க்குறை--பேய்க்கோட்டாலை, s. Evil, disaster, &c., resulting from the malice of an unpropitiated devil.

பேய்க்கூண்டு--பேய்ப்பள்ளி, s. A noted place where the black arts are said to be taught, மாயவித்தைபயிற்றுமோரிடம்.

பேய்க்கொம்மட்டி, s. Coloquintida or bitter apple, Cucumis colocynthis.

பேய்க்கோலம், s. A hideous, monstrous or diabolical appearance.

பேய்ச்சத்தம், s. Hideous noise of de vils, said to be heard in desert places in time of epidemics.

பேய்ச்சிலை, s. An idol, a statue of a demon.

பேய்ச்சுரை, s. A bitter variety of gourd.

பேய்த்தக்காளி, s. A plant, Solanum Lycopersicum.

பேய்த்தண்ணீர், s. [in cant.] Ardent spirits; (lit.) devil's water, சாராயம்.

பேய்த்தனம், s. Fiendishness, fero ciousness, &c.

பேய்த்தும்மட்டி, s. As பேய்க்கொம் மட்டி.

பேய்த்தும்பை, s. A plant. See தும் பை.

பேய்த்தேர், s. The mirage or vapor of the noonday-sun, said to be the chariot of devils.

பேய்நரி, s. A mad fox.

பேய்நாய், s. A mad dog.

பேய்நிலை, s. One of the postures of devils.

பேய்பிடிக்க, inf. [appel. n. பேய்பிடித்த வன்.] To be possessed by a devil.

பேய்ப்பழக்கம், s. Unnatural and ir regular habits.

பேய்ப்பயல், s. A foolish fellow.

பேய்ப்பாட்டு, s. Diabolical songs ad dressed to devils, &c.

பேய்ப்பார்வை, s. Demon-like, fright ful looks.

பேய்ப்பிடி, s. An irresistible grasp.

பேய்ப்பிள்ளை, s. A disobedient, in- tractable child.
