மடக்கு

கிறேன், மடக்கினேன், வேன், மடக்க, v. a. To bend--as the arms, knees, &c., to draw in; to fold, infold, to shut- as a knife; to inflect, deflect, refract; to double, மடிக்க. 2. To turn, turn about- as a horse, carriage or vessel; to turn back, திருப்ப. 3. To repeat, மாறிமாறிச் செய்ய. 4. To stop one's mouth by argument, or sophistry; to confute, refute, overpower, மறுக்க. 5. To subdue in war, to repulse, conquer, abase, mortify, கீழ்ப்ப டுத்த. 6. To compress; to check, restrain; to beat--as one ox another, in plough ing, அடக்க. 7. To engage or secure for one's self--as a servant, an article, or a cargo of goods, preventing appli cation for sale elsewhere, வசப்படுத்த. 8. To stop or hinder proceedings; to quash, தடுக்க. 9. To check or suppress disease, நோய்தணிக்க. 1. To repress, strike back, turn off, &c., எதிரெற்ற. 11. To tame, break, or humble, பணிவாக்க. 12. To bring down, to reduce; to break the constitution--as disease, உடற்கட்டுக்குலைக்க. 13. To coun teract force, to reduce the power of a me dicine or the action of a poison; to check a fire; to mollify, assuage or soften, முறிக்க. 14. (R.) To reap--the seed-sown being multiplied, அரியறுக்க. மாட்டைமடக்கினான். He kept the cattle together in a drove.

மடக்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To secure for one's self.

மடக்கிப்போட, inf. To check, repress, subdue, repulse. 2. To tame, பவ்வியப் படுத்த.

மடக்கிவிட, inf. To subdue, repress, subject to one's own will. 2. To turn back--as enemies or wild beasts.

மடக்கிவைக்க, inf. To quiet, restrain, check, or partially repress.

மடக்குமேசை, s. A table with folding legs. (Colloq.)

மடக்குவரிவைத்தல், v. noun. Impos ing another tax for a second crop. (R.)

மடக்கெழுத்தாணி, s. A folding knife with a style.

மடக்கு, v. noun. [as substantive.] Bend, crook, flexure, elbow, corner, inflection, deflection, refraction, முடக்கு. 2. Turn, repetition, recurrence, திருப்பு. 3. A fold, folding--as a knife, a table, &c., மடிப்பு. 4. A curb, check, rebuff, தடை. 5. A kind of earthen vessel, ஓர்மட்பாத்திரம். 6. Alternation, constant recurrence, மாறிமா றிவருதல். 7. A zigzag course, தாறுமாறு. 8. [in rhet.] The repetition of a word, foot or line of poetry through the stanza, each time in a different sense; considered as an ornament, and embrac ing, according to தண்டியலங்காரம், three hundred and fifteen varieties, ஓர்சித் திரகவி.

மடக்கடி, v. noun. Crookedness, un evenness--as of a road, bank, shore, முடக்கு. 2. Danger, peril, hazard--as from a coast, மோசம். 3. Indirectness, or crabbedness of an answer calculated to deceive; browbeating; overbearing, sophistry, சூதுவார்த்தை. 4. Stratagem, device, craft, தந்திரம். 5. Entrapping, entangling, ensnaring, வலைக்குட்படுத்துகை.

மடக்கடிக்காரன், s. A crafty person, one full of devices; a brow-beater, a sophist, சூதன்.

மடக்கடிபண்ண, inf. To deceive by stratagem, தந்திரம்பண்ண. 2. To confuse by sophistry, to stop one's mouth by dogmatic assertions, வாயடியடிக்க. 3. To entrap, ensnare, கண்ணிக்குட்படுத்த.

மடக்கடியானபேச்சு, s. Overbearing language.

மடக்கிறால், s. A prawn. See இறால்.

மடக்குக்கத்தி--மடக்குப்பிடிக்கத்தி, s. A folding knife, the clasp-knife com monly in use.

மடக்குக்குடல், s. One of the intestines.
