சுழி

s. Whirling as water or wind, a whirl, twirl, sinuosity, vortex, eddy, நீர்ச் சுழிமுதலியன. 2. Incurvature, curl in the formation of letters, circle, &c., as each curve in ன், ண், and the sign of the long vowels in கீ, மூ, டே, &c., அட்சரச்சுழி. 3. Curl of the hair of a horse's forehead, மயிர்ச்சுழி. 4. Involution of the navel, தொப்புட்சுழி. 5. Circular, or curved lines on the head, body, &c., supposed to be indicative of one's fortune, அங்கச்சழி. 6. Circles on the surface of water, as by the fall of a stone, &c., கல்லெறிசுழி. (c.)

சுழிசுத்தம்பார்த்தல், . noun. Examin ing the curled marks of a horse. (c.)

இராசகோபாலசக்கரச்சுழி, s. A gold chakarum coin issued by Vijaya Ra ghava, a king of Tanjore.

பிள்ளையார்சுழி, s. A mark, used by the Hindus in the beginning of a book; by the Saivas in honor of Gan&ecire;sa, and the Vaishnavas as an abbreviation of ஓம் the mystic om. At the north, the Sa. Sri is used.

பிள்ளையார்சுழிபோட, inf. To make the mark in an account, indicating that it is right.

மூன்றரைமாற்றுச்சக்கரச்சுழி, s. A gold coin at Keelvelur, near Negapatam.

சுழிவரைய, inf. To make a circlet with a pin, &c.

சுழிசுழிக்க, inf. To form small curves, or circlets.

சுழிபோட--சுழியிட, inf. To form small curves to the letters.

சுழிக்குணம்--சுழித்தனம், s. [prov.] Knavery, கள்ளத்தனம்.

சுழிப்புத்தி, s. [prov. as சுழித்தனம்.] Knavish policy, knavery.

சுழியச்சு, s. [prov.] A goldsmith's matrix for making impressions.

சுழியன், s. A knave, a rogue, a schemer, a man of tricks, an irritable man, வஞ் சகன். 2. A whirl-wind, சுழல்காற்று. (c.)

சுழியாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak sharply, so as to hurt one's feelings.

சுழிப்பிழையன், s. Any domestic ani mal wanting the proper fortunate marks, கெட்டசுழியுள்ளது. 2. (fig.) A worthless fellow, கூடாதவன். (c.).

சுழிபேதம், s. The different sorts of marks on the head of a horse. அவனென்னைச் சுழிபேதம் பண்ணிப்போட்டான். He has cheated me.

சித்திரைச்சுழியன், s. A kind of storm that prevails in the month of April. (c.)

சுழியாணி, s. The lower pin of a door or gate serving instead of a hinge.

சுழியாணிக்கட்டை, s. The block or stone to receive the pin of a door, a gate, &c.

சுழியாணிக்கதவு, s. A door made with pins to turn in grooves instead of hinge.

சுழியோட, inf. To dive into water. 2. (fig.) To penetrate the minds of men, மனதையாராய.

சுழியோடுகிறவன், appel. n. A diver.

கிறது, ந்தது, யும், v. n. To be come curved, incurvated, involved, to form in circles as on the surface of water, சுழியாக. 2. To be sinuous, guileful, கபட முண்டாக. 3. To be afflicted in mind, கலங்க. (p.)

சுழியப்பேச, inf. [prov.] To speak sharply so as to hurt one's feelings.

க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be formed as curls, curvatures, &c., on the head or body, அங்கஞ்சுழிக்க. 2. To sink, fall in, as the eyes by age, &c., கண்சுழிக்க. 3. To fall here and there--as rain in partial showers, மழைசுழிக்க. (c.) 4. [prov.] To go, move about, to walk here and there, அலைய. மழைசுழித்துவிட்டுப்போயிற்று. The rain was very scanty. கபாலக்குத்துகண்ணைச்சுழித்தது. A severe head ache has sunk the eyes.

சுழித்தமுகம், s. A sunk face. Com pare சுரித்தமூஞ்சி.

சுழித்துவலிக்க, inf. To have stitches or spasms connected with breathing.

சுழித்துவாங்க, inf. To have pain in breathing. 2. To draw in--as a whirl pool or eddy, to ingulph.

சுழிகாற்று--சுழிக்காற்று, s. Whirl-wind. See under காற்று.

சுழிமாந்தம், s. Distortion of the bowels in children, connected with indigestion. See மாந்தம்.

சுழிமின்னல், s. Forked lightning. (Rare.)

சுழித்தது, appel. n. Any thing with a curl of flexture.

சுழியாதது, appel. n. (neg.) That which has not a curl--as டு.

க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க,v. a. To curl, incurve, curve the end of a letter--as ே, &c., சுழியச்செய்ய, 2. To form whirlpools, eddies, &c., as water, நீர்முதலி யனசுழிக்க. 3. To curtail expenses, provide one's self with the strictest economy, செ லவுசுருக்க. 4. To conceal, to hide one's self, மறைக்க, (c.) உள்ளதைக் கொண்டுதான் சுழிக்கவேணும். we ought to provide for our expenses ac cording to our income. எங்கேயோசுழித்துப்போட்டான். He had de posited it somewhere net to be seen be others.

சுழித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To seclude one's self, to evade one's sight, ஒளித்துக் கொள்ள.

சுழித்துப்பார்க்க, inf. To look with displeasure, distorting the face.

சுழிவு, v. noun. Concealment, seclu sion, circumvention, ஒளிவு. சுழிவுபார்த்துவந்துவிட்டான். He traced the way to the secluded place. சுழிவுபார்த்துவந்துவிட்டான். He traced the way to the secluded place.
