மடை

பள்ளமடை, s. A ditch in moist ground.

முதல்மடை--தலைமடை--மேல்மடை, s. Ground near a sluice.

மேட்டுமடை, s. A channel on high or dry ground, to aid cultivation.

மடைதிறக்க, inf. To open the flood gate of a tank, for the first time, when it is full. கடல்மடைதிறந்தவெள்ளம். Like opening a flood-gate of the sea-spoken in admira tion of one's fluency in speech.

மடைத்தலை--மடைமுகம், s. Head of a channel. 2. Sluice of a channel. (சது.)

மடைத்தனம்--மடைப்புத்தி, s. Stupi dity, awkwardness, as மடத்தனம்.

மடைத்தொழில்--மடைவேலை, s. The work of a cook, மடைப்பள்ளிவேலை. 2. [also மடவேலை.] Stupidity, clumsiness, awkardness.

மடைநூல், s. System of cookery, பாக சாஸ்திரம்.

மடைபரவ--மடைபோட, inf. [prov.] To spread out oblations for a god, நிவேதனஞ்செய்ய.

மடைப்பயல்--மடப்பயல், s. [also மட யசாம்பிராணி.] A stupid dunce-in abuse.

மடைப்பள்ளி--மடைப்பளி, s. A cook house, kitchen, அடுக்களை. 2. [vul.] A caste, ஓர்சாதி.

மடையர், s. [sing. மடையன்.] Cooks, சுயம்பாகியர். 2. Blockheads, fools, அறிவி லார். 3. [also மடைகாப்பவர்.] A set of people who look after the flood gate.
