மருதம்

s. A species of tree, Terminalia alata (K&oe;nig), ஓர்மரம். 2. Cultivated ground. See திணை. 3. A rice-field, வயல். 4. Tunes peculiar to agricultural tracts, ஓர்பண். (சது.) 5. [in love poetry.] Love quarrels, &c. See திணை. 6. A parrot that resorts to the மருது tree, மருதமரக்கிளி.

மருதக்கருப்பொருள், s. Men, beasts, and other living creatures, things, em ployments, &c., peculiar to agricultural tracts: 1. மருதத்தலைவர், the chiefs, as ஊரன், கிழவன், with their females; 2. மருதத்தெய்வம், the god, Indra, as மருதநி லக்கடவுள்; 3. மருதத்தொழில், employments, sowing, ploughing, reaping, celebrating festivals, &c.; 4. மருதநீர், water, rivers; 5. மருதப்பண், melody, as மருதம்; 6. மருதப் பறை, drums, as கிணை, மணப்பறை; 7. மருதப் புள், birds, as the heron, swan, nightin gale of India, ducks, &c.; 8. மருதப்பூ, flowers, as the ape-face-flower, lotus, the water lily, &c; 9. மருதமரங்கள், trees, as மருதம், காஞ்சி, வஞ்சி; 1. மருதமாக்கள், inhabitants, as உழவர், உழத்தியர், கடையர், கடைச்சியர்; 11. மருதயாழ், lute, known by the name of மருதயாழ்த்திறம்; 12. மருதவிலங்கு, beasts, as buffaloes, the sea-dog; 13. மருதவுணவு, food, as the சம்பா rice, &c,; 14. மருதவூர், villages, as பேரூர், மூதூர்.- For மருதமுதற்பொருள், and மருதஉரிப்பொருள், compare அகப்பொருள்.

மருதநிலக்கடவுள்--மருதவேந்தன், s. An epithet of Indra as the giver of rain, இந்திரன்.
