வண்டு

vaṇṭu   n. 1. [M. vaṇḍu.] Chafer,bee, of four kinds, viz., vaṇṭu, curumpu,tēṉ, ñimiṟu; வண்டு சுரும்பு தேன் ஞிமிறு என நால்வகைப்பட்ட அறுகாற் சிறுபறவை. யாழிசைகொண்டவினவண்டிமிர்ந் தார்ப்ப (கலித். 131). 2. A kindof bee; நறுமணத்தை நாடிப் பறக்கும் அறுகாற் சிறுபறவைவகை. வண்டுகாண் மகிழ்தே னினங்காள் (சீவக.892). 3. A sub-sect of Maṟava caste; மறவருள்ஓர் உட்பிரிவினர். (புறநா. 263, உரை.) 4. Arrow;அம்பு. vaṇṭu   n. cf. bandha. Loc. 1.Small coil of twisted straw used to catch whatdrops out while measuring grain; தானியம்அளக்கையில் கீழேவிழும் தானியத்தைப் பிடித்துக்கொள்ளும் வைக்கோற்கூடு. 2. Twist or bundle ofstraw thrown over the cover of a bullock-cart,as fodder for bullocks during the journey; பிரயாணத்தில் மாடுகளின் உணவாக வண்டியின்மேலிடும் வைக்கோற்பழுதை.
