The brahmans count seven kinds of ஸ்நானம். or purifi cation: 1. வாயவியஸ்நானம், a purification by being covered with dust raised by the trampling of cows, and by the wind. 2. திவ் வியஸ்நானம், that produced by the sprinkling of rain in the sun-shine. 3. மனஸ்நானம், a purification of the mind by meditation. 4. மந்திரஸ்நானம், sprinkling of water on a sick person while hearing the Veda read. 5. பூமிஸ்நானம், sprinkling with dust from the vicinity of sacred trees, shrubs, &c., as ஆல், அரசு, துளசி, &c. 6. அக்கினிஸ்நானம், purification by applying the ashes of cow-dung. 7. யோகஸ்நானம், from fixed contemplation of the Yogi.ஸ்நானகன், s. (Christ. usage.) The Baptist.ஆரோக்கியஸ்நானம், s. Bathing after recovery from sickness. (Colloq.)ஞானஸ்நானம், s. (Christ. usage.) Bap tism; [ex ஞானம்.]ஞானஸ்நானம்பண்ண, inf. [improp. ஞா னஸ்தானம்பண்ண.] To baptize.ஞானஸ்நானங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give baptism (with the dative).ஞானஸ்நானம்பண்ண--ஞானஸ்நானஞ் செய்விக்க, inf. To baptize (with the accusative).ஞானஸ்நானத்தொட்டி, s. A baptismal font. ஞானஸ்தானம்பெற்றவன். One who has re ceived baptism.ஞானஸ்நானன், s. One who baptizes. (R.)
