ஒற்று

s. A mute consonant, மெய் யெழுத்து. 2. Spying, espionage, searching, agency, வேவு. 3. A messenger, an agent or emissary, தூதன். 4. A spy, வேவுகாரன்.

ஒற்றர், s. Spies, searchers, emis saries, வேவுகாரர். 2. The confidential agents or messengers of a prince whether employed in his own dominion or an other's, for a good or bad purpose, தூதர். ஒற்றராலக்கணத்தேயுணர்ந்து. Being ac quainted (with the counsels of the enemy) at that time through the spies. (பார.) கன்னலொன்றளவைதன்னிற்கந்தவேளொற்றன்யா க்கை சின்னபின்னங்களாகச்செய்குவன். I would tear to pieces the body of Veeravagu, Skandar's emissary, in the space of an hour. (ஸ்காந்.)

ஒற்றளபு--ஒற்றளபெடை, s. The insertion of a consonant in verse to lengthen the sound. See அளபெடை.

ஒற்றாடல், v. noun. The act of di recting spies.

ஒற்றாளுதல், v. noun. Employing spies or secret messengers, தூதரையாளுதல்.

ஒற்றுக்கேடு, s. The elision of a consonant.

ஒற்றுக்கேட்டல், v. noun. Over hearing.

ஒற்றுப்பெயர்த்தல், v. noun. [in மி றைக்கவி.] Constructing a species of verse so artfully that, independent of the main sense, other meanings may be contained in it, மிறைக்கவியினோருறுப்பு--as அம்புத்தலை, the head of an arrow is அப்பு த்தலை, when the mute is hardened--which means the new head--besides the origi nal meaning.

ஒற்றெழுத்து, s. An inanimate con sonant, மெய்யெழுத்து.

ஒற்றொழிபாட்டு, s. A verse that contains no mute consonants, மெய்யெழு த்தில்லாப்பாட்டு.

கிறேன், ஒற்றினேன், வேன், ஒற்ற, v. a. To bring into contact, join, unite, bring faces together in kissing, அ ணைக்க. 2. To touch. ply, apply--as clothes, with slight pressure and repetition, to fo ment, ஒற்றிடம்போட. 3. (p.) To dress an other, to put on clothes, உடுத்த. (நிகண்டு.) 4. v. n. (c.) To give place to another (in sitting, meeting in the road, &c.), to recede, விலக. 5. [prov.] To move by leaps as a beast with its forelegs tied together, தத்த. 6. To tug as a beast in order to break its rope, தும்பையிழுக்க. ஒற்றிநட. Walk aside மாடொற்றியொற்றிப்போகின்றது. The cow goes by leaps. எருதுகயிற்றையொற்றியிழுக்கின்றது. The ox tugs and pulls its rope. அவர்சென்றநாளொற்றித்தேய்ந்தவிரல். My finger is worn away by touching (on the wall) the delineated days of his absence. (குறள்.)

ஒற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To encroach on another's land. 2. To apply to, or bring in contact with one's person--as medicaments, flowers, &c. 3. To give way, to recede.

ஒற்றிப்போக, inf. To give way, re cede, give place to another, விலகிப்போக.

ஒற்றியிருக்க, inf. To give place in sitting, to sit further, விலகியிருக்க.

ஒற்றியெடுக்க, inf. To absorb or extract moisture by touching it with an absorbent.

ஒற்றியொற்றிக்கூட்ட, inf. To en croach by little and litte on another's land.

ஒற்றிவைக்க, inf. To set one aside, further off, out of the way, தூரவை க்க.

பொட்டணமொற்ற, inf. To ap ply cloths--as in fomentations, &c.

ஒற்று, v. noun. Application, touch ing repeatedly with cloths, the surface of the body with slight pressure--a kind of fomentation, ஒற்றல்.

ஒற்றிட--ஒற்றுப்பிடிக்க, inf. To apply cloths--as in fomentations.

திருவொற்றாடை, s. Cloth for absorbing water from the body of an idol after bathing or anointing.
