தேங்காய்

s. A cocoa-nut, தெங்கங்காய்; [ex தெங்கு, et காய்.] (c.)--There are as, அடித்தேங்காய், இளநீர்த்தேங்காய், இளந்தேங்காய், எண் ணெய்த்தேங்காய், ஒல்லித்தேங்காய், குடுகுடுப்பைத் தேங்காய், கொட்டைத்தேங்காய், கொப்பரைத்தேங் காய், பழத்தேங்காய், மூச்சுப்பொறுத்ததேங்காய், வழுக் கைத்தேங்காய், most of these are of Jaffna usage.

குறுந்தேங்காய், s. As சமுத்திராபழம்.

குருவித்தேங்காய், s. Phyllanthus, L. (R.)

தேங்காயடி, v. noun. [prov.] Playing with cocoa-nuts in the new-year's games, he winning who breaks the nut of his antagonist.

தேங்காயுடைக்க, inf. To break a cocoa-nut chiefly in the temple.

தேங்காயுரிக்க, inf. To peel off the husk of the cocoa-nut.

தேங்காயெண்ணெய், s. cocoa-nut oil.

தேங்காயோத--தேங்காய்மந்திரிக்க, inf. To confer magical virtness on cocoa nuts, by incantations, to prevent their breaking in games, or to sent against a foe.

தேங்காயோதிவிட, inf. To enchant cocoa-nuts and despatch then at per sons to do them mischief.

தேங்காய்க்கண், s. The three holes or eyes of the cocoa-nut.

தேங்காய்கயர், s. The lowest part of the cocoa-nut kernel, that which sticks to the shell, See கயர்.

தேங்காய்க்கீரை, s. A kind of greens, ஓர்கீரை.

தேங்காய்க்கீறு--தேங்காய்க்கீற்று-தேங் காய்ப்பத்தை--தேங்காய்வகிர், s. A slice of cocoa-nut kernel.

தேங்காய்க்குடுக்கை, s. The round empty shell of a cocoa-nut used as a vessel.

தேங்காய்க்குடுமி, s. The tuft of fibres on the foremost part of the cocoa-nut.

தேங்காய்க்குலை, s. A bunch of cocoa nuts.

தேங்காய்க்கோம்பை, s. [prov.] A cocoa-nut shell, commonly with the husk on.

தேங்காய்்ச்சிரட்டை--தேங்காயோடு, s. [prov.] The half of a cocoa-nut shell, கொட்டங்கச்சி.

தேங்காய்ச்சில், s. A roundish piece of cocoa-nut kernel, commonly with the shell. See சில்.

தேங்காய்ச்சொட்டு, s. See சொட்டு.

தேங்காய்துருவி, s. A cocoa-nut scraper.

தேங்காய்துருவுமணை, s. The wooden supporter of the cocoa-nut scraper.

தேங்காய்த்தண்ணீர், s. Water of the ripe cocoa-nut-oppos. to இளநீர், in the young fruit.

தேங்காய்த்திருகி, s. As தேங்காய்து ருவி, (R.)

தேங்காய்த்தும்பு, s. [prov.] As தென் னந்தும்பு.

தேங்காய்த்துருவல்--தேங்காய்ப்பூ, s. Cocoa-nut scraping for curry, &c.

தேங்காய்நார், s. The fibre around a cocoa-nut shell.

தேங்காய்நெற்று, s. A well ripened cocoa-nut. See நெற்று.

தேங்காய்ப்பட்டணம், s. The neme of a town on the Malabar coast.

தேங்காய்ப்பாரை, s. A kind or species of fish, ஓர்மீன்.

தேங்காய்ப்பால், s. Cocoa-nut milk from the scraped kernel pressed in the hand.

தேங்காய்ப்பிண்ணாக்கு, s. The refuse of the coco-nut pulp after the oil has been pressed out.

தேங்காய்ப்பூ, s. See தேங்காய்த்துரு வல்.

தேங்காய்ப்பூக்கீரை-தேங்காய்ப்பூநாறி, s. A kind of herb the flowers of which resemble scraped cocoa-nut, ஓர்பூடு.

தேங்காய்ப்பூவறை, s. [prov.] A kind of curry witout gravy, ஓர் பாகம்.

தேங்காய்மட்டை, s. Cocoa-nut husk and fibre.

தேங்காய்முகரி, s. [prov.] The point in the cocoa-nut between the two closed eyes, deemed the strongest for play.

தேங்காய்முகிழ், s. The integument.

தேங்காய்முளை, s. The round germ of a ripe cocoa-nut.

தேங்காய்மூடி--தேங்காய்முறி, s. Half a cocoa-nut.

தேங்காய்மூரி, s. [prov.] The three nerves of a cocoa-nut.

தேங்காய்மொத்தி, s. [prov.] A lump of flesh between the fore-legs of the cow, buffaloes, &c., மாட்டின்முன்கானடுத்தி ரட்சி.

தேங்காய்வழுக்கை, s. The kernel of an immature nut.
