adj. Intense, excessive, rank, virulent, heinous, மிகுதியைக்காட்டுமோரடை சொல். W. p. 495. PAT'U.

படுகளவு--படுகள்ளம், s. Gross fraud, circumvention, theft.

படுகள்ளன், s. A great rogue, a ruffian, a villain. 2. A downright deceiver.

படுகிழவன், s. A very old man.

படுகுறவன், s. A trickish fellow. See குறவன்.

படுசூரணம், s. Entire destruction, முழுநாசம். 2. See படு. v. n.

படுஞாயிறு, s. A very dangerous quinsy, ஓர்நோய். 2. See படு, v.

படுதண்டம், s. Profound reverence.

படுதாமரை, s. The ring-worm, படர் தாமரை. (Ains.)

படுதேவடியாள், s. A notorious strump et.

படுநஞ்சு, s. Rank poison.

படுநஞ்சன், s. A deadly foe.

படுநீலி, s. A very impudent woman.

படுநெருப்பு, s. A fierce or destructive fire. 2. (fig.) A very wicked person, கொடியவன்.

படுபழம், s. Mature fruit, not in use, பழுத்தபழம். 2. (fig.) An adept in all kinds of fraud, one skilled in tricks.

படுபழி, s. Great offence, flagrant wrong.

படுபாவி, s. An atrociously wicked person.

படுபுரளி, s. A flagrant lie, a malici ous accusation.

படுபொய், s. An audacious lie.

படுமுடிச்சு, s. A hard knot. 2. An ensnaring scheme, a great artifice, a malicious conspiracy, மிகுதந்திரம்.

படுமோசம், s. Gross error, grievous mistake, extreme danger.

படுவசை, s. A great reproach, scandal, or disgrace, பெருங்கதை.

படுவஞ்சனை, s. Great deceit, artifice. See படாவஞ்சனை.

படுவினையன், s. A man full of malice.

s. Toddy, vinous liquor, கள். 2. A cluster, a bunch of flowers or fruit, குலை. 3. A tank, or pond, குளம். 4. Good ness, excellence, நன்மை. (சது.)

படுவர், s. [fem. படுவி.] Toddy-sel lers, கள்விற்போர்.

கிறேன், பட்டேன், வேன், பட, v. n. To come into existence, to occur, to hap pen, ஆக. 2. To suffer, to be acted upon, to be affected by suffering, வருத்தம்அடைய 3. To hit or strike against, தட்ட. 4. To touch, to come in contact with, as air, oil, or water, தொட. 5. To perish, to die as a tree or other vegetable, கெட. 6. To die a violent death, as in battle, to be killed, சாக. 7. To set, as the sun or moon, அஸ்தமிக்க. 8. To be caught, as fishes, birds or other game; to be entrapped, as rats, &c., அகப் பட. 9. To be impressed on the mind, மன திலுறுதியாக. 1. To form as concretions, salt, or rust; concreting, as a cataract in the eye, சேர. 11. To be contracted, as debts, பொருத்த. 12. To be produced, as flowers, to blossom, பூக்க. 13. To be healed or cured as an eruption, or boil; to be counteracted as poison; (lit.) to die away, மாற. 14. To sound, roar, ring, ஒலிக்க. 15. [in combin.] To be allowable, admissible proper, lawful, practicable, தகுதியாக. 16. To be exposed to, in danger of, on the point of &c., when joined to other verbs; commonly in the past tense with போட or விட, as படப்போக, to hit; படப்போட, to strike. --Note. This word is joined to the infinitive of active verbs forming a passive, செயப்பாட்டுவினை; also of neuter verbs, in the sense of the substantive verb. It is also joined to nouns, forming compound verbs as கடன்பட, கட்டிபட, கண் பட, சினைப்பட, சேறுபட, நஷ்டப்பட, தனிப்பட, பொ துப்பட, &c., which see. உடுத்துப்படுத்துவந்தார். He dressed himself and came. என்மேல்வெயில்படுகிறது. The sun strikes me. கொஞ்சம்பட்டது. It injured slightly. மீன்படவில்லை. No fish are caught. ரகாரம்படஉச்சரி. Express the letter ர very distinctly. சந்தோஷப்பட்டேன். I obtained joy, re joiced. வீடுநெருப்புப்பட்டது. The house took fire. வரப்பட்டதுன்பம். Suffering which ensued. பட்டகதையுற்றகதை. One's experience as related. பட்டபாடுங்கெட்டகேடுஞ்சொன்னான். He told all his sufferings and wrongs. பட்டுக்கிடப்பாய். May you be slain; an im precation வருவதுசொன்னேன்படுவதுபடுவாய். I have told you what will come of it, you will be the sufferer. படுவதுபட்டும்பட்டத்துக்கிருக்கவேண்டும். To obtain office you must take great pains. பட்டாலறிவன் சண்டாளன். The base man feels only if he be punished. நான்விழுந்துபோகப்பட்டேன். I was just ready to fall. நாய்வாய்ப்பட்டதேன். Honey defiled by the mouth of a dog; i. e. a competent person rendered unfit by some misconduct. கால்படக்குற்றம்கைபடக்குற்றம். Displeased by the touch of a hand of foot. படாதபாடெல்லாம்பட்டேன். I bore indescrib able suffering.

படா--படாது--படாமல்--படாமே, [negatives.] Not convenient, that which does not hit, what is insufferable, &c. சிறுமீன்கள்பெருவலையிற்படா. Small fish are not caught in a large holed net. எனக்குமவனுக்கும்படாது. He and I do not agree. படாம். We will not suffer, as படமாட் டோம்.

படுகட்டை, s. A dead log, உலர்ந்த மரத்துண்டு. 2. [fig and prov.] A useless old person, who ought to die out of the way.

படுகளம், s. Field of battle, அமர்க்க ளம். படுகளப்பட்டபன்னாடை. Like the web of the leaf-rib [of cocoa] trodden in the battle-field.

படுகாடு, s. A burning place for the dead, சுடுகாடு.

படுகாயம், s. A mortal wound, சா வக்காயம்.

படுகாய்ச்சி, appel. n. [prov.] Tobacco growing on the old stumps, as an after crop, மறுதாம்புப்புகையிலை. 2. (fig.) An uncivil person, one of low extraction, உபசாரமறியாதவன்.

படுகிடங்கு--படுகுழி, s. A pit-fall.

படுசூரணம், s. A compound medicinal powder, made by calcining some, and pulverizing other, ingredients, மருந்துத் தூள். 2. See படு, adj.

படுஞாயிறு, s. The setting sun. 2. See படு, adj.

படுதடி, s. [prov.] A dead stick, a black, &c., செத்தகொம்பு. இந்தப்படுதடியைநம்பிக்கடலிலேபோகிறோம்..... Confiding in this rotten bark, we are venturing out to sea.

படுநிலம், s. Desert or barren ground, without water, நீரில்லாநிலம். 2. A burn ing or burying ground, மயானம். 3. As படுகளம்.

படுநெறி, s. A rough or rugged way.

படுபொழுது, s. Sunset, மாலைப்பொழுது.

படுமரம், s. A dead or dying tree, பட்டமரம்.

படுவதுபட்டவன், appel. n. One who has suffered much, been in low circum stances, is miserable.

படுவான், appel. n. West, place of sun setting, மேற்றிசை--Oppos. to எழுவான். 2. A mortal, அழிவான்.

படுவை, [2d per. sing. of படு, v.] Thou wilt suffer.

பட்டமரம், s. A dead tree.

பட்டம், [first person pl.] As பட்டோம், we suffered.

பட்டனுபவித்தல்--பட்டுத்தரித்தல், v. noun.] suffering, experiencing, expiat ing.

பட்டுங்கெட்டும்பார்த்தல், v. noun. En deavoring amidst sufferings and losses.

பட்டுத்தெளிய, inf. To learn by ex perience.

பட்டுப்போக, inf. To set, to go down, 2. To be slain in battle. 3. To wither, fade, die. அவன்கவிபாடினால் பட்டுப்போனமரமும் துளிர்க் கும். If he chant, even he dead trees blossom.

பட்டுமாய, inf. To suffer the conse quences.

பட்டுருவ, inf. To pass through, as a musket ball; also பட்டுருவிப்போக.

க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To lie down for sleep, or otherwise; to roost as birds, கிடக்க. (சது.) 2. >v. a. To thresh grain, போரடிக்க. 3. To pave, to floor, to lay a stratum, தளவரிசைசெய்ய. 4. To catch, to ensnare, to make, செய்ய. 6. )(St.) To kill, to destroy, கொல்ல. இங்கேபடேன். Lie down here; or, I will not lie here. செங்கல்படுத்தமுற்றம். A yard paved with bricks. (Beschi.) இருந்தல்லோபடுக்கவேண்டும். Should we not first sit and then lie down. ஒருபடுக்கையாய்ப்படுத்துக்கொள்ளுதல். Contin uing lying down.

படுக்கவைக்க, inf. To lay any thing down. பிள்ளையைப்படுக்கவை. Put the child to sleep.

படுக்கை--படுத்தல், v. noun. Lying prostrate, recumbent, சயனிக்கை. 2. [sub stantively.] Bed, bedding, couch, any contrivance or place for sleeping, மக்கட்ப டுக்கை. 3. Litter for a horse, or other beast; sleeping place or bed of a wild beast, a lair, விலங்கின்படுக்கை. 4. Straw, olas, boards, &c., placed in a boat to preserve goods from the bilge-water, வள்ளத்தின்அடியில்பரப்பும்புல். 5. Olas, or straw laid down as a bed on which to place reaped corn, tobacco, palmyra fruit, earthen ware, &c., நெற்படுக்கைமுத லியன. (c.)

படுக்கைபோடுதல், v. noun. Preparing a bed, putting litter for a horse, &c.

படுக்கைவீடு--படுக்கையறை, s. A sleeping room, a bedchamber.

படுக்கைமரம், s. Boards laid loosely in a boat, under the cargo.

படுக்கைவிரித்தல், v. noun. Spreading open, or unfolding, a bed or mattress.

படுத்தபாய், s. The mat on which one has lain.

படுத்தபூமி--படுத்ததரை, s. Levelled earth.

படுத்தலோசை, s. [in gram.] Cadence, the grave accent.
