(c.)--Of படி measure, there are in common use, பிச்சை ப்படி, a small sized one; முத்திரைப்படி, a stamped measure. அரைப்படி. Half a measure. 2. Half batta. அவர்சொற்படி. படிகட்டுதல், v. noun. Giving batta, or a daily allowance. 2. Making up a weight equal to another. 3. Making steps or stairs.

படிகொடுத்தல்-படியளித்தல், v. noun. Giving stated allowances.

படிக்கட்டளை, s. [also நித்தியக்கட்டளை.] Daily allowance to a temple for puja.

படிக்கட்டி, appel. n. Counterpoise, equipoise. (R.)

படிக்கட்டு, s. Steps, stairs of ma sonry. 2. A weight, நிறைத்தல்.

படிக்கணக்கு, s. Stated, as to quan tity and time of meals.

படிக்காரன்--படிக்குச்செய்கிறவன்--ப டியாள், s. One who works for his food.

படிக்குப்படி. Step by step; in an ascending series.

படிக்குப்பாதி--படிபாதி, s. [com. படு பாதி.] The half of a debt, loss, gain, &c.,

படிச்செலவு, v. noun. Expense of daily allowance.

படித்தரம், s. Rule, good order. 2. (சது.) Daily allowance, as படிக்கட்டளை. 3. Middling quality. அவர்கள்படித்தரமானவர்கள். They are of the middle class.

படித்துறை, s. Tank, or other bathing place, with steps leading down. See தண்ணீர்த்துறை.

படிபோடுதல், v. noun. Giving a daily allowance, or batta. 2. Placing a step, or block for a step.

படிப்படியாக, adv. By steps, gradually, progressively. படிப்படியாகச்சொன்னார்கள். They related (it) in order.

படிப்படியாயேறுதல், v. noun. Rising gradually, as from the first elements.

படிமுறை, s. The time at which daily allowance is given to workmen. (R.)

படியளத்தல், v. noun. Dispensing to each one his daily food, &c., as the Deity.

படியளந்தபெருமாள்-படியளந்தோன், appel. n. Vishnu as measurer of the universe, at three steps, விஷ்ணு.

படியால்--படியினால், [with a particle.] Because, in as much as.

படியாள், s. See படிக்காரன்.

படியேறிச்சேவிக்கிறவள், appel. n. A female servant to the idol in a fane, who has the privilege (not permitted to others) of ascending the steps before a shrine.

படியோலை, s. A deed copied from the original. See ஓலை. என்வாசற்படிநடந்துவராதே. Come not past my threshold.

கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To settle as dust, or sediment; to subside, or become stationary, as water, இறங்க. 2. To gather, as cream, பாலேடுபடிய. 3. To rest on, as clouds upon a moutain; to alight, as birds; to roost, அமர. 4. To be broken in; to be trained, disciplined, reformed, habituated, tamed; made orderly; to be settled, as a handwriting; கைபழக. 5. To become subject, to be subordinate, to obey, கீழ்ப்படிய. 6. To sink in the water, to be immersed, to bathe, குளிக்க. 7. To become compressed, or flattened, by weight as olas, skins, &c., பதிய. 8. (சது.) To unite, mix, or mingle with; to join, கலக்க. படிந்தஎழுத்து. Settled handwriting. படிந்தஓலை. Olas compressed and flat tened. படிந்ததூசி. Dust settled upon any thing. படிந்தகை. A trained or expert hand. படிந்தமாடு. A trained bullock. படிந்தவேலைக்காரன். A trained or expert mechanic 2. A trained servent.

படிமானம், s. Yielding, compliance, conformity, doclility, அமைவு. 2. Union of boards in fitting.

படியப்பாய, inf. To sink, as a ship.

படியப்பார்க்க, inf. To bid or value too low, விலைகுறைக்க. 2. To unite boards, சேர்க்க. 3. To be ready to sink, அமிழ.

படியவைக்க, inf. To place weights on olas, or warped boards, to flatten or straighten them, படியும்படிவைக்க. 2. To subdue a country, கீழ்ப்படுத்த. 3. [in burlesgue.] To lord it over others, to domineer, ஆள. காலைப்படியவைத்துநடத்தல். Placing one's feet carefully, in walking. அவனுக்குக்கைபடியவில்லை. His hand is not settled in writing, painting, &c. கப்பல்படியப்பாய்ந்தது. The ship has sunk. பலகைப்படியவில்லை. The boards do not fit. மைபடிந்தகண்ணாள். A woman with painted eye-lids. (p.)

படிதல், v. noun. A mixing, joining, கலத்தல். 2. Bathing, குளித்தல். (சது.) ஊர்படிதல். Being in subjection, sub mitting as people to a head-man, sub jects to a king, &c.

படிவு, v. noun. Sinking down; sub sidence, தாழ்வு. 2. Pressure; compressed, flattened down by pressure, அழுந்துகை. 3. Discipline, docility, அடங்குகை. 4. Sub jection, submission, obedience, கீழ்ப்படிவு. 5. Incumbency, sitting, resting, roost ing, perching, அமர்கை.

படிவிக்க, inf. To subject, cause to submit.

க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To read, to recite, வாசிக்க. (சது.) 2. To learn, to study; to repeat in order, to commit to memory, கற்க. 3. To chant, to sing--as verses, sacred books, dramatic writings, &c., பாட. [ex Sa. Put'ha, to re cite or read.] 4. (vul.) To practise, to habituate one's self, to learn or practice an art, பழக (c.)

படிக்கக்கள்ளம்பண்ணுதல். v. noun. Playing truant as a scholar.

படிக்கும்பிள்ளை, s. A schoolboy, a student.

படித்தவன், appel. n. [neg. படியாதவ ன். A learned person.

படித்துக்காட்ட, inf. To quote a verse by singing it. 2. To show how a verse should be chanted. 3. To sing and ex pound. 4. To recite at an exhibition.

படித்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To learn, to practise an art. 2. To become a scholar or a proficient. களவுபடித்துக்கொண்டான். He has learned to be unfaithful, or deceptive.

படிப்பு, v. noun. Reading, recitation, வாசிப்பு. 2. Learning, study, repetition, instruction, inculcation, கல்வி. 3. Chant ing, singing, பாடுகை. 4. [prov.] Scheme, subtlety, contrivance, தந்திரம்.

படிப்புக்காரர், s. [pl.] Lerned men. 2. [prov.] Persons who attend at a tem ple for the season to hear the Purana chanted. 3. Cunning, scheming, subtle persons.

படிப்பனவு, v. noun. [prov.] Learning, study, படிப்பு.

படிப்பனை, s. Learning, study, edu cation, instruction, doctrine, போதனை. 2. Expertness, proficiency, competency, சமர்த்து. 3. [prov.] Craftiness, &c., as படிப்பு.

படிப்பாளி, s. A person of learning and eruditin. (c.)

படிப்போன், appel. n. A pupil, a scholar, மாணாக்கன்.
